The Ceremony is officially under way...

as if we could afford otherwise.

The Pin Ceremony will be on Friday, June 1st, 2012.  It will take place during your last period (period 8---it's a B day) and will last from 2:00 pm-3:35 pm.

We have secured the pins (applause).

OFFICERS
We currently have $110 in our account here at school, kept by the treasurer (thank you).  Those funds will be used for decorations.  Please look up potential deco. online at Party City, etc. and make printouts if possible to show our class sponsor.  We need balloons and a helium tank, which will cost around $50.   Brainstorm for other potential deco we may need, within the confines of our limited budget.
WE WILL HAVE A MEETING THIS WEEK.

until then,

see you tomorrow.

note: community service letters for the car wash have been signed and distributed since the last post.  apologies for the wait.  thanks again to everyone who volunteered.

In Limbo: After the Car Wash (2-2 and 2-3)

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Car Wash on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3.
(I apologize for being a bit late)

Anyways, we raised approximately $200.00 between both days.  Hats off to volunteers and our class sponsor for a job well done!  That brings our current fund to about $500.00, according to our class sponsor.  Which means we're just about done with fundraising.

Alas, the other class officers and I are awaiting our next meeting.  Till then, I can't tell you much else.  We'd like to do something for our class to make this year memorable.  Ideas will be surely accepted.  I am aware this post is quite vague; I'll update you after the next meeting (hopefully soon!)

Thanks for reading.

Also, volunteers of the car wash- I shall inquire further about the progress about the signing or the progress reports.

CAR WASH: Apparently, we still have some work to do...

Our work here is NOT DONE.

After our meeting last week with our trusty class sponsor, we were informed that we currently have quite a deficit.  A gap of nearly $500.00.

So, to remedy that problem, we(the officers and class sponsor) have decided to initiate a CAR WASH which will take place on Thursday, Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb.3, after school.

THE CAR WASH:
We really need volunteers for this event.  Please see me (the class president) or Mr. Martinez if you are interested.  Read below for times and more info; make necessary transportation arrangements beforehand ASAP.  We will need approx. 15-20 volunteers (the more, the better).

Feb. 2 will be an early release day.  The car wash for this day will last from dismissal (1:30 pm) to about 3:15 pm.  Feb.3 will be a Teacher Workday (which means that the teachers will be here, but the other students will not); we will be working from 10:00 am to 3:15 pm on that day as well (make sure to bring lunch).

Further volunteer info: We'll meet in Mr. Martinez's room on both days (supplies for the car wash will be provided) and the car wash will take place in the school parking lot.  Make sure you specify whether you will be volunteering on Thursday, Friday, or both days.  I will take names of volunteers for the event shortly (perhaps next Monday).  COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS WILL BE PROVIDED.

There will be announcements for the car wash over the PA soon.

THE TICKETS: The officers and I will start selling tickets promptly to teachers.  The tickets will sell for $10.00 each and will benefit our class (namely for the Freshmen Pin Ceremony).  Again, announcements containing this information will be aired shortly.

Thanks again.

Our current status: We have $285.00 in our account for the Pin Ceremony.

Also, class officers: our meeting will be on Friday, Feb. 27, in Mr. Martinez's room at the beginning of lunch.

After the Storm: Our current default

So, the audition workshop was a success.  It took place last Thursday, December the 8th.  We sold pizza and soda to potential DASH students and their parents.  We earned $175 purely from pizza and soda sales, courtesy of the PTSA (PTSA- thank you so very much!).

So, now, coupled with voluntary donations and other things, we have approximately $300 in our account.  We still need about $700.

SO: I shall be sending home some parental donation forms ASAP, to some students whose parents would find it economically feasible.  We will be asking for parental donations as an extra supplement to our other fundraising.  We're thinking of selling DASH pencils, wristbands, etc.  But the disadvantage to that is that many vendors require you to place a minimum order; we would not be making as much profit.  And online vendors, which are much cheaper, are also much more unreliable.  Ah, the predicaments that smatter our streamlined pursuit of fundraising.

Therefore (notice my varied word choice), parental donations will hopefully fill that void.

Other fundraising opportunities: acutal audition in which we could sell refreshments, Field Day in which we would also sell refreshments, and perhaps-just maybe-we could work something out in which we can set up a bake sale before school, and maybe even a car wash in Feb.
JSYK: We are technically not allowed to do bake sales during lunch or breakfast, because the school views it as competition to the vending machines and the cafeteria.  The time slot  in which we could possibly hold a bake sale is around 1 hour AFTER LUNCH.  Or after school.  But then again, everyone rushes out to the buses after school.  Do you see what I mean now?  All those little predicaments!?

A car wash doesn't sound so bad.  We would just need time and a good turnout.

And then the actual audition...we would be doing basically the exact same thing as the sales at the audition workshop.

*Also, if you have any other good ideas for fundraising opportunities or donations, please see me (the president) or our treasurer to tell us.  We appreciate your feedback.*

Also, thanks to my peers who have left some very thoughful and needed comments.  Your efforts don't go unnoticed.

Well, I'll leave it at that.  Talk to you later.

JSYK: The Audition Workshop

Just so you know, the 9th grade class officers and a few other volunteers will be selling pizza and drinks on Thursday, December 8th, 2011, during an audition workshop.  This is a PTSA-sponsored sale, so 100% of profits made from this sale will go directly to us, the 9th grade class.

This should help us significantly in our endeavor.

INFO ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: The audition workshop lasts from 5 to 7 pm.  Volunteers will meet me in front of the Multi-purpose room by 3 pm (that day is also an early release day), where we will set up signs and coolers, etc. By 4:30 pm, the pizza will arrive and so will the parents and students.  We will continue selling drinks and pizza until 7pm, which is when the audition workshop ends; the volunteers will need to be picked up promptly by 7 pm.  All volunteers will have pizza to eat, courtesy of the PTSA.  YOU WILL ALSO RECEIVE COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS volunteering during the pizza and soda sales, given that you sign in and out on a volunteer log that I will provide on that day.

I will try to contact the PTSA soon, to ask about a few details.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE ABOVE, PLEASE CONTACT ME AT SCHOOL.  I may have about 2 spots (as always, we need backups) available.  We'll see.  But, you receive community service hours for helping the 9th grade class (YOU) raise much-needed funds and you get to socialize with 8th graders.  Doesn't that sound enticing?
So, talk to me if you're interested.

Thanks as always.

PROGRESS: We have about $100 of our $1,000 goal.  We will be accepting voluntary donations in the meantime.  Keep up the peppy, generous holiday spirit- voluntary donations would be greatly appreciated.  Drop them off with either the treasurer or me, the class president.

ALSO: I will be sending out parental donation forms and envelopes soon.  We will be asking a few 9th grade parents (for those who are in an economically feasible position) to make a donation to the 9th grade class.  Voluntary donations are very valuable to us as of now.

P.S.: Thank you, Erica.  I read your comment about recycling old cellphones and ink and toner cartridges.  That sounds like a possible idea...we'll talk.

A Raffle, perhaps?

How would you feel about a raffle in order to raise funds for the pin ceremony?
What should we raffle off?
And how much should the tickets cost?

Talk to me whenever you see me, or reply in the comments section below.

A Thank You and Getting Back to Voluntary Donations

Thank you for your suggestions concerning fundraising.
The biggest help we need, as of now, will be from the PTSA at DASH.  They would be instrumental in helping us.  Also, we are trying to secure our position to sell snacks and drinks during Field Day (which is coming up.  I am uncertain of the exact date- but I will try to find out soon).

VOLUNTARY DONATIONS:  I WILL BEGIN COLLECTING VOLUNTARY DONATIONS AGAIN FROM STUDENTS.  Remember: they are voluntary.  You DO NOT HAVE to donate.  BUT IF YOU DO, I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT YOU ARE DIRECTLY FACILITATING THE MAIN FUND FOR OUR PIN CEREMONY.  Yes- i.e., VOLUNTARY DONATIONS ARE ALL THAT WE HAVE, AS OF NOW.  I will check names off.  Donations of $5, $10 will be GREATLY APPRECIATED.  Thank you to those who have already donated.

Plus, the corporate donations and stuff fell through.  It's way too messy.  Who knew everything had to go to headquarters?

INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS: If you know someone (parent, relative, acquaintance, family friend) who would like to donate money to benefit the 9th grade class, have them write a check with that amount, and make it out to Design and Architecture Senior High.  Then, have him/her attatch a letter stating his/her name and that they would like to donate this amount of money to the 9th grade class at Design and Architecture Senior High.  I will try to create a pre-typed form, so that all you have to do is write a check and sign the form.  BUT FOR NOW, JUST FOLLOW THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS ON MAKING A PERSONAL DONATION.

PLEASE DIRECT ALL VOLUNTARY DONATIONS (from students/other individuals) EITHER TO ME (the president) OR OUR TREASURER.
